Richard Sharp

RICHARD SHARP
1891 -1st May 1915

Richard was born in 1891 in Salford.

His parents were Thomas Alfred born in 1857 in Rolvenden,  Kent ,he was a Railway Clerk and Elizabeth Alice Whittall born in 1863 in Chorlton.

Thomas died in 1934 and Elizabeth in 1944. They are buried in Urmston cemetery.

Richard had 4 siblings:

Alfred 1887 -1978

Harold 1892 -1985

Ann 1895 -1979

William 1898 -1976

In 1901 Richard was living with his parents at 31 Bent Lanes.

He had enlisted by 1911 and was stationed at Assaye  Military Barracks, South Tedworth.

Richard was in the 2nd Battalion of The Lancashire Fusiliers, service number 1700.

He was Killed in Action on 1st May 1915 in a shell trap at St Julien.

He was awarded the Victory,  British, 14th Star and Clasp 2/2644.

He is remembered on his parents’ headstone and on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
