Charles Hassell Fox

CHARLES HASSELL FOX

Charles Hassell  was  born in  1897  in Salford .

In 1901  he was living as a lodger in Cawder Street, Eccles with Albert Barlow born 1864 in Davyhulme and Bessie Fox born 1863 in Sherbourne, Dorsetshire. Albert was a Farmer and Bessie a Silk Winder

In 1911 the family had moved to 103  Moorside Road, Urmston, Albert and Bessie had adopted Charles who was now a Grocer’s boy.

Bessie died in 1911 and Albert in 1931

Charles’ birth parents are likely to be Henry Arthur Fox 1870-1942 and Mary Eastwood 1862-1898. Henry and Mary married in 1894. Mary died in 1898 leaving 2 children. Charles and Hannah born 1898. In 1911 Robert Fox born 1833, a widower, is living at 33 Balfour Road with his granddaughter Hannah Fox and daughter Annie Morris. Bessie Barlow and Annie Morris are Henry’s sisters.

Charles was in the Royal Field Artillery in the Territorial Force, service number 706609.

Charles died of wounds on 1st September 1917. He is buried in Belgium

He was awarded the Victory medal.

Charles is remembered in the Adinkerke  Militery Cemetery.
