Ernest Midgley

ERNEST MIDGLEY
1880 – 1st JULY 1916

Ernest was born in Miles Platting in 1880, he became a Hydraulic Packer.

His parents were George Henry born in Manchester in 1852, he was a Maker Up in Cotton Manufacture  and Charlotte Rourke born in Manchester in 1853.

Charlotte died in 1899 and is buried in Phillips Park Cemetery. George died in 1924 he is buried with other family members in Southern Cemetery.

In 1905 Eric married Jessie Ford born in Salford in 1884. They had 2 children Ernest 1906-1992 and Arthur 1914-1993. Jessie died in 1946, Ernest enlisted at Salford in the 15th Battalion of The Lancashire Fusiliers, service number 10808.

He was Killed in Action on 1st July 1916 in Flanders.

He is buried in Department de la Somme, Picardie, France.

He was awarded the Victory, British and 15 Star.

Eric is remembered with Honour at Connaught Cemetery, Thiepval.
