William McCann

WILLIAM McCANN
1896 – 31st AUGUST 1917

William was born in Crumpsall in 1896. He was a Tailors Assistant.

His parents were Charles born in Crumpsall in 1872, he was a Canvasser Guide, Protection Society and Money Lender and Bertha Markham born in Manchester in 1872.

Charles died in 1951 and Bertha in 1953.

William had 2 siblings:

Eric 1898-1917

Dorothy 1900 – 1981

In 1901 William was living at 7 Balfour Road and was still resident there in 1911.

William joined the 17th Battalion of The Manchester Regiment service number 32493.

He Died of Wounds on 31st August 1917 in the Western Theatre France and Flanders.

He is buried at Zonnebeke, West Flanders, Belgium

He was awarded the Victory and British Medals.

He is remembered with Honour on The  Tyne Cot Memorial.
