ALFRED BARNARD SELF
13th August 1878 – 7th February 1919
Alfred Barnard was born on 13th August 1878 in Heigham, Norfolk. He was baptised on 6th September 1878.He became a Box Manafacturer Manager.
His parents were Alfred Cooke Self born in 1843 in Stepney, a Commercial Clerk and Alice Barnard born in 1850 in Norfolk. Alfred died in 1913 and Alice in 1934.

Alfred married Edith Elsie Bennett born 1881 on 4th June 1914, she died on the 18th June 1936. They had 2 children a female child born 1916 who died the same year and Peter Barnard Self born in Leeds on 26th July 1917, he died on 22nd December 2008.
Alfred enlisted in Manchester in December 1915 at this time he was living at Thornlea, Davyhulme Rd.
He joined The Royal Army Service Corps service number M/302434. Alfred was discharged in 1918 as he was no longer physically fit, dying on 7th February 1919 of a throat tumour believed to be caused by gas poisoning in the trenches he is buried in Henbury, Gloucestershire .
He was awarded The Silver War Badge.
