18-Sheard,Thomas Moss

1876 -21st March 1918

Thomas Moss Sheard was born in Duckinfield in 1876, he became a Storekeeper.

His parents were John James born in 1855 in Halifax, Yorkshire  ,he was a Watch/Clock Repairman and Jeweller and Betsey Booth Moss born in 1856 in Ashton Under Lyne.

Betsey died in 1894 and John in 1926.

Thomas had 3 siblings;

  • May Louisa 1880 -1925
  • Lillian Booth 1887
  • James Harry 1891 – 1950.

In 1903 he married Frances Mary Priestman born in 1878 , they  lived at The Grove Cottage, Humphrey Lane in 1911.

Thomas enlisted in Manchester in the 2nd/5th Battalion of The Manchester Regiment service number 202197.

He was killed in Action on the 21st March 1918 in France and Flanders.

He is buried in Department De La Somme, Picardie.

He was awarded the Victory and British medals.

He is remembered with Honour on The Pozieres Memorial.
